Bring Children to the Snow

Whilst a key role of FIS is to organise a structure for international competitions through to the highest levels, it is also committed to the global promotion and development of recreational skiing and snowboarding. The vision of FIS is for skiing and snowboarding to be the first choice winter sport and recreational activity. Recent research has shown that especially the number of youngsters participating in snow-related activities has dropped over the past years.  Bring Children to the Snow is the key initiative being introduced by FIS to promote snow activities as a healthy leisure recreation for children and youth in winter.

The campaign aims to encourage newcomers to snow whilst adding additional value to those who already participate in the snow sports. The campaign seeks to achieve this vision through two primary events, FIS SnowKidz and World Snow Day. The primary target group for the campaign is children between the ages of 4-14 and their families. Whilst aimed at children and their families, FIS also hopes to motivate teenagers and young adults to stay involved with the sport.

The campaign is not focused on generating competitors for any particular FIS discipline. ‘Fun in the snow, fun on the snow’ is the motto at its heart.

Knowledge transfer through the NSA

The National Ski Associations (NSA) play an integral role for the campaign’s success. The campaign supports the ongoing projects in different countries and integrates them into the worldwide campaign as well as providing additional ideas. The FIS SnowKidz and World Snow Day websites are the sources of the work conducted by the National Ski Associations and other organisers around the world.
